Archdeacon Ray McInnes, Th.L.
Ray has a great love of liturgy, preaching, pastoral care and a linking of the Church with the local community, and leads a robust and welcoming community of faith at the Anglican Parish of the Parks.
Ray was ordained in 1977 and has served in several city and country parishes, including 13 years in Benalla and 8 years as Dean of Wangaratta Cathedral.
He took up the position of Vicar of the Parish of the Parks (St. Silas and St. Anselm) in 2005. He was appointed Archdeacon of Port Phillip, Bayside and Kingston North two years later . He was appointed Vicar of the neighboring Parish of Port Melbourne in 2011 , which is served by an Associate Priest.
He holds several Diocesan appointments, including membership of Archbishop-in-Council,an elected board which provides formal advice to the Archbishop and has carriage of the operations of the Diocese. Other Diocesan appointments include Chair of the Building Committee and membership of the Property and Senior Staff Committees.
Widely travelled, he, his wife Glenys and their children have spent a year in England on exchange. He has led pilgrimage/study tours to Santiago de Compostella in Spain , known as the Camino Santiago, and "Footsteps of Jesus" to Israel and Jordan .His concerns for social justice are reflected in the Parish's Sunday Suppers Welfare Program and he is a Director of "Anglicare".
Ray draws on these and other experiences in his sermons. His style is relaxed,focussing strongly on expounding the message at the heart of the Gospel reading set for the day. He brings matters of ethics,society,culture and social awareness as themes in parish life, liturgy, sermons and through the highly successful monthly discussion meetings featuring speakers on spiritual and related topics at The Upper Room.
Among his other interests, Ray is an artist and a golfer, and is a member of the Rotary Club of Albert Park. The McInnes family enjoys offering hospitality, and being part of the Parish family.
